What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial Massage can be defined as a remedy, the systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation, pain and injury management. This can be done through manual therapy of these tissues as well as take home exercises to aid in this process.

Why would I need a Remedial Massage?

Remedial Massage is a great way to guide our bodies natural healing processes in the right direction, making sure our body is functioning to its best ability we can fine tune our movements with exercises and relax sore and dysfunctional muscles with massage. It can also aid as injury prevention and rehabilitation from an injury, as well as symptomatic chronic, or acute pain.

What can I expect from a Remedial Massage?

Depending on why you have come in for an appointment, there can be several things you can expect after a massage. Some include;

  • Relief from discomfort or pain in a specified area
  • Take home exercises can be given to work side by side with the massage so that is has longer lasting benefits.
  • If a hard pressure if required you may have some soreness for about 24 hours after in specific muscles – but usually eases off quickly with stretches.
  • Ease of movement in everyday life.
  • Immediate relaxation.

Will I need more than one treatment?

Consecutive treatments are best if there has been an ongoing issue for many years. As long as prescribed exercises and self help tips are aided to, the massage will have the best outcome. Your therapist can guide you on how many further treatments you may need to help you function in everyday life without pain or discomfort.

What is Dry Needling?

Although Dry Needling uses the same very thin needles, it is different to Acupuncture. By inserting thin filament needles into a dysfunctional muscle, it can aid in healing and relaxing this specified muscle. It should not be overly painful, but what can be felt is a small contraction or dull ache within a muscle, then relief from muscular pain should be felt after the needle is removed.
